Our NYFW Instagram diary!

Our NYFW Instagram photo diary from last season went over so well that we decided to do it on every trip from now on! We just came back from a week in New York checking out the Fall 2012 collections from Rag & Bone, SUNO, Zero + Maria Cornejo, and the rest of our favorite jewelry and clothing lines. We're constantly inspired by the creative energy of New York City, all of our designers, the bounty of delicious food, and spotting models and stylistas on the streets. But as always, we're happy to be back in (warm!) California with fresh eyes and appreciation for home. Enjoy!

Some highlights include:
- Hairspiration at SUNO: the messy bun! We've been looking for a top-knot alternative for months!
- Killer jackets at Rag & Bone
- Beaded bohemian perfection at Giada Forte
- Celebrating Trina, Rebecca & Tracy's birthday at Co.
- Getting crafty with our graphics man, Paul Tsang, wife, Sandra, and Gillian and Danica from Conroy & Wilcox at Rebecca's BIG BIG CITY: Brooklyn workshops!

NY Fashion Week: SUNO

We were excited to be back at Milk Studios for the SUNO show! The tents at Bryant Park had overshadowed this space as a venue for many years, so it was refreshing to be back and in a more intimate atmosphere. Every seat in the house is a good one and they also have a Blue Bottle kiosk next door- perfect for our much-needed coffee fix!

We have had our eyes on SUNO‘s African-inspired prints and pile-it-all-on styling for several seasons, so it was a treat to be able to see the upcoming collection in motion. This show was actually the first-ever runway presentation for SUNO, which is named after designer Max Osterweis’s artistic, world-traveling mother.

For S/S 2012, they toned down the African kanga influence and concentrated on a more feminine, sophisticated look. Pale layers of white eyelet blouses were worn over pinstripes; stunning mid-length silk dresses fluttered down the runway; and peplums and cut-outs were thoughtful details that heightened the prettiness. It was an elegant departure from their previous seasons, but still very true to themselves- every single look had at least one print, if not two!

Lots of stylish ladies in the audience that night! It's always a pleasure to run into Christine and Piera, the editor and creative director of Refinery29! And also exciting to spot Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato in the front row- last spring they collaborated with SUNO on a jewelry collection! (Far left with the fabulous necklaces!)

NY Fashion Week: Rag & Bone

Good morning everyone! We are in New York this week for Fashion Week, checking out all the Spring/Summer 2012 collections! Friend us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for live updates on our favorite shows, meals, and outfits from our New York adventures- it's been crazy so far!

Our first stop was the Rag & Bone show in a huge warehouse on the West side near the piers. We ran into Justine and Nancy, part of the R&B sales team, who are huge fans of the Metier blog! They were super sweet and looking cute in their R&B outfits, despite the extreme heat.
This show was the biggest production that the Rag & Bone guys have put on to date- a long ceiling of lightbulbs rose up from the floor while bass-heavy beats by Radiohead's Thom Yorke and colored spotlights followed the models along three runways!

As for the collection itself, we were so thrilled to see bright colors and the California-esque style inspired by Burning Man, surfers, and ravers. The look was very sporty, with lots of safety orange contrast piping, ponchos, mirrored sunglasses and nods to bicycle accessories like reflector straps and panniers bags! There were lots of slouchy, comfy knits, flowing pants and dresses, but with the expert tailoring that Rag & Bone is known for. We can't wait to get our hands on those bright blazers!

It's always fun to see street style aficionados Scott from the Sartorialist, Garance Dore, Yvan from Facehunter, Phil from Streetpeeper, and other photogs trying to grab some shots of the cool crowd...here were some of our favorite sightings:

We're Loving: Momofuku Cookies!

Every single time we're in New York, we have to make a visit to Momofuku, the infamous ramen restaurant that also has a bakery full of delicious goodies called Milk Bar! Sheri & Trina brought some treats back, including our favorite cookies: cornflake & compost!

And now, we don't even have to go to New York, with this recipe for the infamous compost cookie. Originally from Regis & Kelly's website, our new favorite blog, Momofukufor2, cooks all the recipes from the Momofuku cookbook and has adapted the recipe for those of us not lucky enough to live in Manhattan.

Tales of the City!

Just got back from NYC – what a crazy, quick trip to see the first of the beautiful, new Spring things-to-be. Yes, Spring when we’ve barely wrapped our heads around Fall but details to come soon about all of that. What I really wanted to share is photos from Fashion’s Night Out with the Crangi family of our much-adored Philip Crangi and Giles & Brother jewelry lines.

The Crangi Family Project is a tiny jewel box of a store in the meatpacking district right next to Pastis, one of our favorite people-watching bistros (Trina and I always order the La Vie en Rose champagne cocktail and fries.) There’s a line out the door for the oysters the Crangi family is shucking atop burlap covered, rope-tied barrels. A dash of tobasco and a shot of vodka and one is fortified for purchasing fuchsia rhinestone bangles and baroque, gold studded teardrop earrings (also found at Metier!)

And just in case you were wondering, I was wearing, as I almost always am, my favorite horseshoe and heart locket Philip Crangi charms on a chain as well as my new red Isabel Marant corduroys, Martha Davis lace back boots, a Zero tank and Vanessa Bruno fringe bag. Fashion’s Night Out indeed!!

~Sheri

P.S. Fall has arrived at Metier so if you haven’t been in in awhile, come check it out – it looks gorgeous and so SF.

Food York!

We're not going to deny it, whenever we go to New York all we do is eat! Here are some of our most memorable meals......commence drooling!

Duck confit, grapefruit, marinated radicchio and egg yolk; pork belly and poached egg ramen; and homemade pork bun from Momofuku!

Dumplings from Vanessa's in Chinatown!

Warm bagels from Ess-A-Bagel, only 2 blocks from our apartment!

And definitely worth mentioning although they didn't last long enough to take photos...the cookies at Momofuku's Milk Bar! Cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow, compost cookie (pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch, chocolate chips!!!), chocolate-chocolate, and blueberry cream!
