Charm Me

With our summer pop up fast approaching we're curating a selection of charms, lockets and fobs. Take a peek at a few of them, front and back; many of them have an opening for a photo or a surface just waiting for a custom inscription.

Inspiration Monday!

Over here at Metier, Monday is one of the best days of the week! It's our chance to catch up with each others' weekend adventures, try out a fresh, inspired outfit and put the right foot forward. We decided to do a weekly post of our inspiration to get everyone excited about a new week!

Trina: I'm so inspired with artists today keeping the traditions and skills alive from past generations. A lost art should never be lost. Even in our everyday life there is so much to learn. Put down your iPad and learn your Grandmother's lumpia recipe, your Dad's hand at woodwork, your Mom's way of storytelling....teach your children, your sister, a friend. Everyone should visit the Evolving Traditions at the Academy of Sciences featuring Southwest Native Pottery and Silver!

Lindsay: I have been really inspired by a few things the last few days.
1) Orange
2) Imperfect/strong women and creative writing. Author Alice Munro is an amazing author, known mostly for her New Yorker stories and her books. Visit her Wikipedia page to get some info and read short stories from her. I really enjoy it!
3) And lastly I really like this depression song right now. Oldie/Goodie/Boom.

Rebecca: I've been revisiting conceptual artist/writer/theorist, Dan Graham's work and his radical ideas about time/space, perception and society that he explored through experimental video, sculpture, and performance. His involvement in the punk and DIY music scene heavily influenced his work and led him to write extensively about the philosophy behind the lifestyles of rock icons like Japanther, Patti Smith, and Sonic Youth. He is a totally awesome dude that everyone should check out!

Iju: I'm inspired by Man Ray's "La Jolie" gold necklace(1971) and the new background pattern and words from Yoko Ono's twitter : "What can you do to create a peaceful world? Just be what you really are: a person who is kind."

Martha Davis Workshop Residence Opening

This past weekend we celebrated with local shoe designer, Martha Davis, at the opening party for her residency at The Workshop Residence. Located in the up-and-coming Dogpatch neighborhood, the Workshop program engages artists and designers and encourages creative exploration and collaboration with the San Francisco art & craft communities. Martha's residency culminated in the design and production of special edition shoes and belts handcrafted from local, reclaimed, and old-growth woods.

Christina from one of our favorite fashion blogs, Stylebite, recently interviewed Sheri about 20 years of Metier, her own personal style, and what trends she's excited about for Spring 2012.

Stylebite: Your designer roster is always great. Do you have any favorites? Which designers are in most frequent rotation in your closet?

Sheri: I’m totally an Isabel Marant or a Zero+Maria Cornejo girl almost every day with a big dose of Current/Elliott or Mih jeans.  I live in my Rag & Bone blazers and wear Golden Goose or Martha Davis boots all year long.  I adore jewelry and wear an armful of bracelets and my Antique and Cathy Waterman charm necklace every day.  I like an interesting sheath or a tuxedo blazer for dressing up with a big Lizzie Fortunato necklace and red Isabel Marant pumps that I seem to wear with everything. A big Jerome Dreyfuss is my bag of choice.

Read the rest of the interview here! Special thanks to Christina for featuring us!

We're Loving: Backyard Bill and Isabel Marant

If you like the groomed spontaneity of The Sartorialist and the envy-inducing voyeurism of The Selby, you will love Backyard Bill, William Gentle's photo blog of attractive, stylish people doing their thing in their own outfits. Earlier this year he shot Isabel Marant in her studio for ELLE UK, giving us a nice glimpse into one of fashion's hardest working designers. Don't miss his profiles of other pretty people around the world.

We're Loving: Gem Gossip

We have been big fans of the jewelry blog, Gem Gossip, for quite a while, following sweet southern Danielle's love for antique jewelry and her quest to become a certified gemologist! One of our favorite parts of the blog is a feature called "Show Me Your Rings," where readers send in photos of their ring collections, hands decked out in all kinds of bands from tiny heirlooms to enormous costume rocks!

We sent her a few images of some of our rings that she just posted. Enjoy the sparkle!

Ryan Roche visits Metier!

What a nice little treat this morning to see our friend Ryan Roche, even just for a short visit! Fresh from a friend's baby shower up in Napa, she was so excited to see the golden fields and hot pink wildflowers of California's summer landscape! Her lovely outfit evoked the tones of her trip: one of her nude cashmere shawls, a giant sweatshirt in her signature hot pink, and the perfect straw hat. Love you, Ryan!
See more photos of Ryan's collection here!

Happy Birthday/Goodbye Tracy Party!

Last Thursday we went out to dinner at Zero Zero to celebrate Metier's January, February, and March birthdays: Tracy, Trina, Rebecca, Melissa, & Iju! It was also Tracy's last week (she's moving to New York! :() so we had to celebrate with a final hoorah. Of course that involved cocktails, a tower of delicious pizza and piles and piles of hand-wrapped presents!

And of course the night could never be complete without a mini-photoshoot in the studio with some wacky props...
